Just and Unjust Wars & the Ukraine Crisis

Was putting another book back in our home library when the 1977 classic Just and Unjust Wars by Michael Walzer caught my eye. Probably haven't cracked it since studying International Affairs. Very apropos to the Ukrainian crisis. I started by skimming it, but had to get down my thoughts. While I just skimmed it this time around, I can see why it's a classic. In this post, I've applied Walzer to Putin's justifications for the Ukrainian invasion. A basic theory of international politics is that war must have a just cause and be conducted in a just way (Ch. 2, pg. 21). Meaning the reason you start a war and the way you fight a war can both be judged and each must be correct for the war to be a legal war. For this post, we'll focus on the just cause aspect. 2009 Capstone

Well, I think I've waited long enough to finish up this blog for my summer missions in Japan. It's just so hard to put all that I've learned and seen into words, and then condense it to something that other people would like to read, but I want to do this. So, following the advice of both my father and grandfather, I'm going to put down all the major things that I've learned about this summer, in a few different categories. A. What I've learned about God and faith. Most of these are affirmations of what he's been teaching me for years. 1. God is faithful to his people, and really does make all things for the good of those who love him. When he is all you can depend on, it really tests your faith, but he comes through, such as when I needed money for this trip and got lost in the largest city in the world, etc. 2. Leveling up in the faith?

I've been thinking about posting here for a while, but like everything it seems, I just keep on putting it off. But I want to keep this blog running. So here goes. God has been teaching me a lot these days. Sometimes, though it feels like I have to learn the same lessons again and again. But thinking about it, if I had everything figured out as a college student, what would I have left to learn? And it's pretty arrogant to think I'll have all my ducks in a row. At the same time, it's frustrating to fight the same problems again and again after I thought I learned my lesson. Unconsciously, I think I see my life as a video game. I mean, what does a video game have? In role-playing games(my favorite genre), you start out at level 0, they give you tutorials on how to do different game mechanics, and then, bit by bit, you level up and fight harder and harder opponents that get you closer to your goal of saving the world or whatever.
