Poem: Cost of Discipleship

I'm going through this great Bible study created by CMT called The Jesus Series - Nine Lessons from Jesus. I like it because it gives creative ways to respond that go beyond the basic memorization, application, etc.

Example of activities:
Diagrams
Journal
Places to Visit
Projects to Do
People to Interview
Topics to Research
Scriptures to Read
Books to Read
Songs to Listen to

Last week, we were on lesson 6, in which we discuss the cost of discipleship. One of the activities was to write a poem based on Luke 14:25-35. Below are the results. This poem should be read in spoken word style. Been awhile since I've tried poetry, so any critiques about rhythm/form/wording would be appreciated. Enjoy!

When Jesus calls, we must respond
He says, come follow me, I will make you fishers of men
He immediately asks us to pull more into the bond
He says, go into the world, and we wholeheartedly say amen

Following Jesus is no flippant decision
It's one that should be made with vision
In becoming a disciple, we should count the cost
Following Jesus means we must carry our own cross

Being a disciple means loving Christ most of all
Jesus says, you must hate your family and your own life
But we follow him understanding that as the church we are his wife
Realizing that he paid the ultimate price to save us from the fall

We build our tower, we go to battle, we renounce all
In the knowledge that Jesus Christ is worth all
If we didn't follow him, where would we make our home?
Eternal life is found in Christ alone
